In this episode, I had the absolute delight to speak with Dr. Ozioma Okonkwo. Dr. Okonkwo is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology within the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is dedicated to the scientific study of promising approaches to preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease or slowing its progression after disease onset.

In this episode, I had the honor and pleasure of speaking with Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Anne Marie Reece. Brian W. Reece, Sr spent 4 years serving our country in the United States Marine Corp in machine maintenance and repair. At the age of 56, Brian was given the diagnosis of younger onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Brian and his wife Anne, a special education teacher, merged their two families together almost 30 years ago with 4 grown sons and now 14 grandchildren! Anne retired after 27 years of teaching as a special education teacher, and now uses her teaching skills to help Brian to learn new things and to help Brian with strategies for his short term memory. Together, Anne and Brian are a formidable team, helping Brian to prepare for the challenges that Alzheimer’s Disease brings. I am excited to share their story with you as we honor Families Impacted by Dementia during Brain Health Awareness Month

In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with doctor, businesswoman, educator, and author Dr. Cheryl Woodson. Dr. Woodson spent more than 30 years teaching and practicing Geriatric Medicine at The University of Chicago and Northwestern University medical schools. She founded the only subspecialty-level, community-based, privately-owned geriatrics program in the nation that offers primary care services to empower all adults to AGE EXCELLENTLY! By focusing on heart health, preventing illness, managing weight and stress, and learning about the miracles of maturity, she helps family caregivers meet their seniors’ needs without destroying their own health, finances or relationships. In this episode, I had the honor to speak with Dr. Shenikqua Bouges. Dr. Bouges is a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology within the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Bouges is a member of the American Geriatric Society, the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment, and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Bouges was also a recipient of the 2020-2021 UW-Madison Outstanding Woman of Color Award. Tune in for a learning session on Alzheimer’s disease.

In this episode, I had a pleasure to speak with Carey Gleason, PhD. She  is a scientist and clinician whose research interests stem from her desire to improve diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia for all individuals including women, African Americans and other groups traditionally under-represented in research. Our discussion was centered around hormone therapy at menopause, cognitive symptoms of menopause, the role of estrogen on cognition and much, much more. Tune in for this special educational piece.
